The Rules of Rutless.com

General: Rutless.com will have 6 staff members, also referred to as "cast" members. On Sunday of each week, the 6 staff members will have a day of the week (Monday thru Saturday) randomly assigned to them. On that staff member's day, they will have to perform the task that is assigned to them by the person who went the day before. At the end of that day, that cast member will post a blog of what happened to them while performing that task. It may just be plain text, but it could also include pictures, audio, video, etc. They will also post the task for the person who has been assigned to the next day. The person who goes on Monday will be assigned the task that was created by the person who went on Friday. Because the order is selected at random on Sundays, it is entirely possible that the person who assigns a task on Friday, could be giving that task to themself. The tasks should be creative and, often, somewhat challenging. A person may not assign the same or an extremely similar task twice.

Guidelines: No tasks should be posted that will get the person who has to do that task into trouble. Some tasks may require very minor physical harm or some minor travel, but never anything that is overly "wrong".

Refusals: A cast member is entitled to refuse a task that has been given to them. We do not want them to do anything that they feel will cause them a hardship. However, if they choose to refuse a task, they will be required to select a task from the refusal pool and will receive a half of a refusal point. Anyone with 3 refusal points can be subject to being replaced by a new cast member. If a cast member successfully completes 5 consecutive tasks that have been assigned to them, without any refusals, they will have a half refusal point subtracted.

Refusal Pool: When the site started out, the "refusal pool" was populated with ten various tasks that could be chosen when a cast member refuses to complete a task that was assigned to them. Any time that a task is refused, that task will go into the refusal pool. Any time that someone chooses a task from the refusal pool, it is removed from the refusal pool.

Excuses/Postponement: In the event that a cast member cannot complete any tasks at all, due to sickness, death in the family, or anything along those lines, then that cast member will have their assigned task postponed. The cast member whose task is postponed must complete that task at some point within the next 4 weeks or suffer a penalty of one refusal point. If at all possible, the active cast member should try to post a task for the cast member who goes on the next day. However, if they cannot, the cast member going on the next day must choose a task from the refusal pool, without penalty.

Failures/Tardiness: Usually, a cast member will post their task and assign the next task between 7:00pm to 12:00am of the day that they are the active cast member. If the active cast member fails to post their task and the task for the next person by 10:00am of the following day, without a very good excuse, they will lose the right to make a task for the following person and receive a refusal penalty. If they do manage to post the task later than 10:00am on that day, then they will only receive a half refusal point. If they do not post it that day before 7:00pm, they will receive a full refusal point. Any task that is failed will be placed in the refusal pool. For the person who goes on the next day, if a task has not been assigned to them by 10:00am, they will choose one from the Refusal Pool, without penalty, and post that they have chosen it because a task has not been assigned to them.
